Super Bowl Performance

How many people do you know just watch the super bowl because of the halftime performance? Yeah there might be some people that watch it, because of the parties are fun for them, but a huge reason is for the halftime show. Watching the super bowl is only fun when there is an extra large TV, people that you enjoy at the parties, and of course the super bowl halftime show!

Every year the Pepsi people choose a singer that is very popular during the time of the super bowl. One year Beyoncé was the halftime performer and this performance was put in the books for one of the top and entertaining shows. During her performance the lights went out and all of social media there were comments saying, "she's so good that even the lights went out." I watched this halftime performance and I would have to say it was one of the best performances I have seen. The entire time was interested and was just amazed on how amazing she is live.

This year the halftime performer is Coldplay. To be honest, I do not know many songs by them and I probably won't enjoy this halftime show as much as I have enjoyed previous shows. Pepsi try's to pick a singer that can relate to multiple generations. Because the super bowl is aired nationally and is one of the most viewed show on television during this time, they try to have a performer that the majority of people will know their music. Now these artist go all out for the halftime performance. It is like a popularity thing. If your performance is just outstanding then your popularity will increase, and the singer will see more of their music being sold. Many of these performers are very stressed over making a show that people will remember for a life time. I believe Beyoncé has done that for me. They spend weeks and weeks on designing and making sure their performance is a good one.

The super bowl has always been the thing to watch when growing up, because there are funny and entertaining commercials. Yeah I know weird, funny commercials? Since when has people enjoyed watching commercials? When the super bowl is performing millions of people are watching, so what else is the perfect opportunity to get your product and advertisement out there? Companies do crazy things like using babies as an entertainment attraction for people. You would be amazed at some commercials. If you don't enjoy football or know anything about it, I would still advise you to watch the super bowl, because you will see some crazy funny commercials and the halftime performance is always a great thing to see.

Word G'mon

The saying 'Word G'mon' is a really funny inside joke between my family and I. My sisters and my cousin used to watch the movie She's The Man everyday in the summer. We got to the point where we knew what would happen next and all the words. She's The Man is about a high school girl playing soccer and her high school cancelled their team. The boys coach wouldn't let them join their team, so she pretended to be her brother while he was in London playing music at a different high school. There is multiple love stories progressing throughout this movie. It is an entertaining and joyful movie to watch. Our favorite line in the movie is when the main character says "word g'mon". Ever since this movie we have always said it as a joke.

As the year has progressed and I have written more and more blogs about sports I decided to name my blog Word G'mon. I thought, because the movie is about soccer which is about a sport and my blog is written about sports, that I should name my blog that. This saying has a lot of meaning and history behind it. I have gotten comments about my blog title of why I would want to name my blog that. I just answer with a laugh and say it is an inside joke.

Hair

How many athletes do you know, wears their hair down when playing a sport? There aren't too many when reaching the 5th grade. Little kids for some reason love to play with their hair down, in their face keeping them from seeing. I don't understand why they would want to do that, because what benefit does that bring to the athlete succeeding at the sport?

I would never let my child wear their hair down when playing a sport. There are some circumstances where wearing your hair down is okay, like dance or show choir. Any sports that involve contact or having a quick reaction time should have to be required to tie their hair back in either a bun or a pony tail. When you reach middle school, wearing your hair down in a physical activity is considered weird and different. Playing basketball with your hair down, means there is no way of seeing what is going on. A ball could be coming at you and not even know it, because your hair is in your face blocking your view. You could perform SO much better, by just tying your hair back in a pony tail or a bun.

Healthy

To be a great athlete that comes with eating well and knowing what foods are to good for your body when performing a sport. If you put in the right foods in your body then you are more likely to perform better than anyone else. If you think about it what kind of kids perform harder and better? The kids that eat a lot of junk food or the kids that eat healthy and energy foods? I would go with the healthier kids, but there are always exceptions with this.  I know many athletes that do not eat healthy and still succeed and perform really well; better than any other kid that eats healthy.

Some good foods to eat when at a long tournament are, fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, power milk, protein bars, pretty much anything that will provide you energy to finish out the day. Bringing your own food to tournaments will help you to stay on the healthy track instead of eating concession food, which isn't usually healthy food. This will also keep you from spending a lot of money on food.

At volleyball tournaments there is ALWAYS a lot of food at the team camp. Every player brings some kind of food and many times the food isn't healthy. This is very hard to control yourself to not eat the unhealthy food. I am one of these persons that want to eat everything and anything in front of me. During a long day of a sport, athletes are bound to get tired, so eating healthy will help you keep the energy you need to play for that day or multiple days.

Type Of Shoes

How many people do you know complain about not succeeding at their full potential, because of their shoes? I know A LOT! In some cases this can be true, depending on how worn out the shoe is.

When playing a sport there are certain shoes that are required to play. Cheerleading is usually a nice type of tennis shoe, there are particular dance shoes to wear, basketball shoes are designed a certain way to help protect the ankles, volleyball has a certain bottom to them, and track, football and softball all have a type of spike in them to help them when running or moving so they don't fall when playing the sport. There will be a point in time when these type of shoes will wear out. The bottoms will become dull and have less grip to help you from slipping around. The insides could end up getting holes in them from the way your foot rubs constantly in them. When playing an indoor sport there is a lot of cutting and moving on the floor. Many times your shoes can be dirty or they have lost their grip from wearing them all the time. This causes you to slip and slide not be able to play your best at the sport.

On the other hand there are some people that don't have worn out shoes, but claim they do because of their performance in the sport. If they have fallen or have slide instead of gripping and pushing off, they will blame their shoes instead of owning up to it; being authentic. The whole blaming thing gets on my nerves, because not every mistake has an excuse to it.

I guess the shoe does have a some what of an effect to the way you play, but its not going to be a make it or break it sort of thing. Yes, if the shoe is falling apart and there is no way to perform well in them, then I think that is a good time to blame the shoes and buy some new ones. When playing sports, the appeal of the shoe is HUGE to some athletes. If your shoes look "cool" and you get pretty good playing time then you have a lot more 'hip', as some people might say.

The actual type of shoe n athlete wears doesn't effect the way they perform, it is the type of shape they are in.

Braces

Injuries happen frequently when involved in sports. To get better from the injury there is a lot of therapy and strengthening to do for that injury. Now coming back and actually planning on the recovered injury is harder than a lot of people think. If you wait until your injury is fully recovered then you shouldn't have any problem playing on it, but many athletes will wear some type of brace. The braces help with their mind and confidence. Are braces really needed for an athlete that has already fully recovered from an injury?

With experience from when I tore my ACL and having to go through therapy has put me with physical therapist that don't believe in braces. If you do your therapy right and have worked hard to strengthen your muscles that you have lost over time, then you should come back just as good or even better than before the injury. There really shouldn't be any need for a brace or a tape job. If you don't have any confidence in your muscles then you should really look at wearing a type or brace or taping job. My best advice would to do something that is going to make you the most comfortable at succeeding at the highest level possible. If that takes wearing a brace then go for it. Just know that your muscles can handle the movements that are required for that sport.

So many athletes start playing a sport before their injury is fully recovered. If this happens then I would suggest to wear a brace. Your muscles weren't strengthened the way they should have been to return to a sport. I don't understand why athletes would want to do this, because it just leads to another injury down the road. You aren't back to your full potential that you could be succeeding at. There are so many things that could go wrong with returning to a sport early. I don't understand why anyone would ever want to take a risk that could lead to an even larger injury. No matter how important returning to the sport is, make sure you have done all of the recovery and strengthening so a brace is not needed.

Stay confident in the strengthening you have accomplished, because sometimes wearing a brace can only make it weaker. Ankle, knee, elbow, wrist braces can all help and protect you from an injury, but who knows if these will prevent you from injuring or re-injuring a body part.
